Spices That Can Prevent Cancer

Most Valuable Spices
  • Cayenne Pepper/Capsaicin (Chilli peppers): A very important spice with anti-cancer properties. An overdose of chilli peppers however should be restrained but capsaicin destroys potential cancer cells and reduces the size of leukaemia tumour cells considerably. It can be concluded that, it is not only setting our tongues on fire, also can scare cancer pathogens off too.
  • Ginger: This amazing spice is having a lots of medicinal qualities that can help in  lowering the cholesterol, boost metabolism and kill cancer cells. Easily added to vegetable dishes, non vegetables menu preparations(fish, meat etc.) and salads. Ginger enhances the flavour in cooking.
  • Oregano: More than a pizza or pasta topping, oregano confirms its worth as a potential agent against prostate cancer. Consisting of anti-microbial compounds, just one teaspoon of oregano has the power of two cups of red grapes. A Phyto  chemical named 'Quercetin',which is  present in oregano, restricts the growth of malignant cells in the body and acts like a drug against cancer-centric diseases.
  • Cinnamon: A half teaspoon of cinnamon powder every day can keep away the risk of  cancer. cinnamon is a source of iron and calcium. Cinnamon is useful in reducing the growth of tumour. Also it blocks the formation of new vessels in the human body.
  • Cumin: It helps in digestion and probably that is why we like chewing a handful of cumin seeds at the end of every meal. However, its health benefits is much more than we can imagine. A portent herb with anti-oxidant characteristics, cumin seeds contain a compound called 'Thymoquinone' that checks proliferation of cells responsible for prostate cancer.
  • Saffron: Saffron contains a natural carotenoid dicarboxylic acid called 'Crocetin'  which is a primary cancer-fighting element . It not only inhibits the progression of the disease but also decreases the size of the tumour by half, guaranteeing a complete goodbye to cancer. Though it is the most expensive spice in the world. A few saffron threads come loaded with lots of benefits so that you won't think paying for it.
  • Fennel: It is loaded with phyto-nutrients and antioxidants. Due to which  cancer cells have no other options rather to accept defeat when the spice is fennel. 'Anethole', a major constituent of fennel resists and restricts the adhesive and invasive activities of cancer cells. It suppresses the enzymatic regulated activities behind cancer cell multiplication.
  • Turmeric/Curcumin: It is main or you can say as the king of all spices. It comes in dealing with cancer diseases. Turmeric contains the powerful polyphenol Curcumin that has been clinically proven to retard the growth of cancer cells causing prostrate cancer, melanoma, breast cancer, brain tumour, pancreatic cancer and leukaemia amongst a host of others.

Carbon Nanotubes From Recycled Waste Plastic Bags

2840300715_d8352aa29ePlastic bags or Polythene carry bags , that’s what we say are getting so popular and have become as if an essential thing in our day to day life. These have surpassed in the matter of use over the grocery market since they were first introduced more than 30 years ago. Billions and Billions of them are used around the world each year. Most of these bags are non-bio-degradable and a majority of them still end up in landfills, which is now a serious matter of concern and an alarming effect to the whole world.

It has now turned as one of the most serious threats to our oceans is plastics pollution. It constitutes approximately 90% of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. Since it is not bio-degradable, these plastic pieces are eaten by marine life, wash up on beaches, or break down into microscopic plastic dust, attracting more debris.

When they are thrown to dustbins, garbage cans, plastic bags do not simply decay unlike other biodegradable trashes like paper and leftovers.  If they are scattered anywhere on the ground, they become the sources of water pollution. Plastic is also swept away by ocean currents, landing in swirling vortexes called ocean gyres. These floating garbage sites are impossible to fully clean up.

310045892_16d1ed07d1
There are many negative impacts that can cause by plastic bags. Plastic poses a significant threat to the health of sea creatures, both big and small. Over 100,000 marine mammals and one million seabirds die each year from ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic because plastic bags are made of various chemicals which are mainly toxic. That is certainly very harmful to the health and the environment.

It takes 500-1000 years for plastic to degrade. Even if we stopped using plastics today, they will remain with us for many generations, threatening both human and ocean health.

Since it’s a big matter of concern and an alarming to threat to the whole world, so despite these alarming facts and cons, there are several actions taken to address and overcome the problem of plastics. One of them is the successful production of essential Carbon Nanotubes from these waste plastic bags.

What is Carbon Nanotubes:
Carbon nanotubes are tiny cylinders of carbon atoms, one nanometer in diameter (1/10,000 the diameter of a human hair). They are the strongest and stiffest materials yet discovered - hundreds of times stronger than steel but six times lighter - and their unique mechanical, electrical, thermal and transport properties present exciting opportunities for research and development. They are already used in a variety of industries including in electronics, sports equipment, long-lasting batteries, sensing devices and wind turbines.

The structure of carbon nanotubes can be observed by rolling up a graphite sheet plane to a tube. According to Dresselhaus and co-workers, the crystalline structure of CNTs can be characterized by the (chiral) roll-up vector R within a corresponding graphite sheet plane. R = ma + nb (m,n ∈ N), with vectors a and b describing the base unit of the graphite sheet plane. The roll-up vector results from the difference between the two grid points of the graphite lattice that coincide in a single grid point of the nanotube on the imaginary roll-up. The length defines the perimeter, the angle ϑ the helicity (chirality) of the nanotube.

Carbon Nanotubes
The potential for carbon nanotubes hinges on the industry’s ability to produce large quantities more cheaply and uniformly. Current synthesis methods involve complex processes and equipment, and most companies in the market measure production output in only several grams per day.

Carbon nanotubes are classified as per their structures and geometry: single-wall nanotubes (SWNTs), double-wall nanotubes (DWNTs), and multi-wall nanotubes (MWNTs). The different structures have individual properties that make the nanotubes appropriate for different applications. Because of their unique mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties, carbon nanotubes present exciting opportunities for scientific research and industrial and commercial applications.

CNTSEM
Carbon nanotubes can also be effective semiconductors with the right arrangement of atoms. Scientists are still working on finding ways to make carbon nanotubes a realistic option for transistors in microprocessors and other electronics.

Advantages of Carbon Nanotubes
Carbon nanotubes have a number of valuable and unique properties, including:
  • High thermal and electrical conductivity
  • Optical properties
  • Flexibility
  • Increased Stiffness
  • High tensile strength (100 times stronger than steel per unit of weight)
  • Light weight
  • Range of electro-conductivity
  • Ability to be manipulated yet remain strong
What exactly behind this research:
To overcome the various negative issues generated by the waste plastic bags, Scientists of Adelaide University have developed a new way of producing Carbon Nanotubes, thereby lessening the various alarming effects of these plastic bags.

Scientists at Australia's University of Adelaide have developed a process for turning waste plastic bags like you get at the grocery store into “fine carbon nanotube membranes.” This high-tech nano substance is a sophisticated and expensive material with a variety of potential applications, including filtration, sensing, energy storage and other biomedical innovations.

Researchers at the University's School of Chemical Engineering had already been growing nanotubes in pores on alumina membranes. Each pore had layers of carbon deposited in it, until enough layers had built up to form a tube. Ethanol was being used as the carbon source.

Multi-walled_Carbon_Nanotube
PhD student Tariq Altalhi, however, realized that any carbon source could be used. In an experiment, pieces of non-biodegradable plastic bags were vaporized in a furnace. The resulting carbon proved more than adequate for the task. No toxic catalysts or solvents are required for the process.

Researchers grew the carbon nanotubes onto nano porous alumina membranes using pieces of grocery bags, which were vaporized in a furnace to produce carbon layers that line the pores in the membranes.

“Initially we used ethanol to produce the carbon nanotubes,” says Professor Losic. “But my student (Tariq Altalhi) had the idea that any carbon source should be useable.” The potential for carbon nanotubes hinges on the industry’s ability to produce large quantities more cheaply and uniformly. Current synthesis methods involve complex processes and equipment, and most companies in the market measure production output in only several grams per day.

“In our laboratory, we’ve developed a new and simplified method of fabrication with controllable dimensions and shapes, and using a waste product as the carbon source,” says Professor Losic. The process used by the researchers is seen as a jumping point for a future where plastic waste can be used without generating poisonous compounds.

Applications and Uses of Carbon Nanotubes:
Today, carbon nanotubes find application in many different products, and researchers continue to explore creative new applications.
Current applications include:
    • Bicycle components
    • Wind turbines
    • Flat panel displays
    • Scanning probe microscopes
    • Sensing devices
    • Marine paints
    • Sports equipment, such as skis, baseball bats, hockey sticks, archery arrows, and surfboards
    • Electrical circuitry
    • Batteries with longer lifetime
    • Electronics
  • Future uses of carbon nanotubes may include:
    • Clothing (stab proof and bulletproof)
    • Semiconductor materials
    • Spacecraft
    • Space elevators
    • Solar panels
    • Cancer treatment
    • Touch screens
    • Energy storage
    • Optics
    • Radar
    • Biofuel
    • LCDs
    • Submicroscopic test tubes
Beside the  high production costs currently limit commercial applications, but the possibilities for new production methods and applications are encouraging. As understanding of carbon nanotubes expands, so will their uses. Because of their unique structure & geometry and chemical and physical properties, carbon nanotubes have the potential for revolutionizing not only daily life but also scientific exploration and healthcare.

How to Create A Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive from an ISO Image

It has been almost a year regarding the launch of Microsoft Windows 8 operating System. Since from the day of release, it’s gaining huge popularity among its users day by day. In the matter of popularity it not only has surpassed its predecessor Windows Vista and Windows 7 but also has recently surpassed Apple Inc’s OS X as far as the number of current users is concerned and this is because of its various exciting apps.
The necessity to install Windows 8 from a USB device, like a flash drive, is now a common one due to the fact that many computers, especially tablets and smaller laptops and desktops, no longer have optical drives.
So today here in the following post, I’m going to explain you the easy steps to create a bootable Windows 8 USB Drive from an ISO image.

Necessary Requirements:

Requirements for your System to Support Windows 8:

Before creating a Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive, be ensure that the following two requirements you should have. Windows 8 works great on the same hardware that powers Windows 7.

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: MicrosoftDirectX 9 graphics device or higher

Additional requirements to use certain features:

  • To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports Multi-touch.
  • To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
  • To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768.
Requirements for your System to Support Windows 8:
  • A flash drive (4 GB or more).
  • A Windows 8 DVD or ISO.
  • Access to a working computer, with a DVD drive if you have a Windows 8 DVD instead of an ISO image, with Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed.
Steps to Create Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive:
  • If you have not already, you will need to download a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 8 ISO or Windows 8.1 Preview ISO file version you want and save it to your desktop in Windows 7 or Vista or XP installed. You can save it as the .iso file or can write it on a DVD.
  • Now download the Download the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool from Microsoft and then install it.
MICROSOFT Windows USB DVD tool
This free program from Microsoft properly formats your flash drive and then copies the contents of the Windows 8 installation ISO file you have to that flash drive.
Note: Don't worry that this program has Windows 7 in the title. This program works perfectly well with Windows 8 ISO files and can be installed in Windows 8,
Windows 7,Windows Vista, or Windows XP.
  • Start the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool program. You should be able to find the shortcut on the Desktop, as well as in your Start menu or on your Start screen, depending on which version of Windows you installed the program on.
  • Click Browse on the Step 1 of 4: Choose ISO file screen.
Step-1
  • Locate, and then select, your Windows 8 ISO file. Then click or tap Open.
  • Click or tap Next.
  • Choose USB device on the Step 2 of 4: Choose media type screen.
Note: As you can see here, there is also a DVD option. Apart from files on a flash drive, you could also use this tool to burn a Windows 8 ISO image to a DVD or BD disc.
  • On the Step 3 of 4: Insert USB device screen, choose from the drop-down box the flash drive or USB-connected external hard drive you want to put the Windows 8 setup files onto and then touch or click Begin copying.
Note: Suppose you haven't yet plugged in the USB storage device that you're planning to use, don’t worry, you can do that now and then tap or click the blue refresh button to make it show up in the list.
  • Click or touch Erase USB Device if you're prompted to do so on a Not Enough Free Space window. If you don't see this, don't worry, it just means that your flash drive or external hard disk is already empty.
  • On Step 4 of 4: Creating bootable USB device, just wait for the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool to prepare the drive and copy the Windows 8 installation files to it.
The first Status you see will be Formatting, which will take anywhere from a few to several seconds, depending on how large the USB drive is that you're using. Next status will be seen as Copying files which could take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, possibly longer, depending on which Windows 8 ISO file you're working from, as well as on how fast your flash drive, USB connection, and computer is.
Note: Don't worry if you’ll find the percentage indicator shown on the screen jumps ahead quickly but then sits on a single number for a very long time. While it might not make a lot of sense to behave that way, it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.
  • Assuming everything went as planned, the next screen should say Bootable USB device created successfully with a Status that says Backup completed.
You can now close the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool program window. The flash drive, or other external USB drive you're using, now has the necessary files on it to install Windows 8 and is also properly configured to be
    booted from.
  • Now your bootable drive is ready. You can Boot from the USB device that you just created to start the Windows 8 install process.
Note: If the Windows 8 setup process doesn't start, it's very likely that you'll need to make boot order changes in the BIOS. Make your USB-Drive as first bootable device by changing the Order in Boot Priority section in BIOS Setup.

Researchers have proved that a Real and Genuine Smile which is Spontaneous and comes from inside you, is created by certain Stimuli like: happy thought and mood, seeing something funny etc. and can’t be ever fake. Smiling, laughing and feeling Joy are natural therapies that not only relieves your stress and makes you healthier, but also can help you live a longer, happier life.

So wanna lead a healthy & stress free life…???
Then just always have a Sweet and Cute Smile on your face, which not only you but also makes others happy.
  • KEEP YOUR SHOES OUTSIDE
Most of the dust in your home comes from the outside, the bulk of it coming in unnoticed on shoes that don’t appear to be either muddy or dirty. In order to prevent from dirt and chemicals or potential allergens from entering your house, you should remove your shoes at the door. This activity could be a practical way to keep the house clean and free from outdoor pollutants.
  • SNEEZE INTO YOUR ARM
When you don’t have a tissue or a napkin handy to cover your mouth and nose. This is not always the best because then there might be germs on your hands and you could just spread them when you touch things. Therefore, wash your hands immediately afterwards and often. The best way is to cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow, or upper arm. It also helps to not spread germs because you don’t touch things with the crook of your arm very often. The most effective way is to carry around a handkerchief or tissues and sneeze into this. As long as you clean the handkerchief regularly, this is a very effective method.
  • GIVE A BREAK TO YOUR EYES
Many people specially office employees and students spend several hours a day staring at computer screens or monitor, which can result a strain in the eye and headaches. To protect your eyes from such things you should take frequent gaps in between. Eye specialists recommend the “20- 20-20 rule”: For every 20 minutes you spend at the computer, glance away from the screen for at least 20 seconds by looking at an object located 20 feet away. Giving your eyes a break, allows them to focus on something else. It is also a good idea to stand up, put your hands in the air, and take a long stretch to promote blood flow in the body.
  • READ AND LISTEN TO MOTIVATIONAL MATERIAL
Reading or listening any motivational material leads a peaceful life. Sometimes the work pressure reduces or goes away. By doing this as a habit you can maintain a happier and healthier life. Also you can gain knowledge of different new things. So motivate yourself by reading and listening to inspirational books/ audiobooks .
  • CHECK THE NEWS HEADLINES DAILY
To keep yourself up to date watch/listen the news headlines daily. To know the present  scenario, current affairs related to the whole world you should see the news. Also by doing this as a habit you can  learn the new researches going on all over the world.
  • COUNT UP TO 20 WHEN ANGRY
If you are seething with anger, count up to 20 and take a slow, deep breath between each number. This simple technique can reduce your temper and cool your nerves. Counting distracts your mind, which gives you some time to distance your emotions from the situation that is ticking you off. If you are still angry, keep on counting and deep breathing until you feel calmer, and more in control. Taking slow, deep breaths helps to switch the nervous system from a sympathetic system response, to making you feel more relaxed.
  • BRUSH YOUR TONGUE
    It is required to brush
daily to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. However, cleaning your tongue is an important step to keep your mouth clean. The back of the tongue is the main place for bacteria and germs that can give you bad breath. Always brush the surface of your tongue from back to front, after brushing your teeth. Doing this twice a day removes plaque-causing bacteria and food particles trapped in the tongue, and freshens your breath.
  • MICROWAVE THE KITCHEN SPONGE
The toilet seat may seem like the most germ-infested item in the home, but studies have shown that the kitchen sponge supersedes the list. A kitchen sponge’s frequent use to clean dal or sabzi spills, as well as, its moist and porous texture, make it a breeding ground for foodborne bacteria, and mildew. To stop the spread of germs, make sure it is wet, then leave it in the microwave for 45 seconds every evening.
